Storm Lake rolls out public survey for downtown assessment

STORM LAKE, Iowa (KCAU) — A team of revitalization specialists from the Iowa Economic Development Authority will be visiting Storm Lake for an on-site study of the downtown business district and the community is invited to participate.

According to a release, the assessment is scheduled for April 23 through 25 and will conclude with a presentation at the end of the specialist’s visit. While on-site, the team will tour the community and conduct interviews

“The visit is always most successful when we have excellent community input,” Director of the Iowa Downtown Resource Center Jim Engle said. “We encourage residents to get involved. Fill out a survey. Meet with the assessment team. We encourage you to think about your downtown and come ready to participate.”

The release noted that residents can complete a short pre-visit online survey, which can be found here. The survey will be open until April 12.

The team conducting the assessment has extensive experience in downtown development by working with several Midwest communities, according to the release. Through these projects, they have been able to improve downtown aesthetics, business mix and development, organizational refinement, promotion calendar, and building rehabilitation.

“The assessment visit is a great way for a community to take a step back and get honest feedback from downtown professionals and community residents,” Engle said. “The five-person team will highlight the downtown’s strengths and challenges and will offer some practical recommendations that the community can implement over time.”
